Wherefore the Vintage Rawk

Just a quick post to ask; What would today’s equivalent be of the old rock flyers of the 80s?? I mean, this just screams “retro” with a heavy dose of “AWESOME!!”

So what do we have today? What could possibly keep up with that kind of homegrown “please come see my show so I can eat” effort? Is MySpace the closest we get these days? Mind you, I’m no luddite, but I do shed the occasional tear for trends long since lost to the years. Just sayin’. I love me some vintage RAWK!

MySpace is, sadly, about it. Much like Blogs are the zines of today. I really like paper, but I don’t think the 90levenmillion rapper flyers on telephone poles downtown are the same.

I agree. There’s something particular about the mid-late 80s LA strip flyers that makes them different. The closest thing I can recall *might* be some of the early rap flyers I from places like Miami. Even some of the early 90s rave flyers don’t really have the same sort of appeal (although they also have a distinct retro-nostalgia inducing style).

*sigh* Such is life, somehow trolling myspace just isn’t the same as what I imagine it was like to stand outside the Rainbow in 1985.
